Ken Coffey is a Saskatchewan bassist who initially enjoyed the opportunity to work with Bob Moyer. He then performed with the U of R Jazz Band under the direction of Ed Lewis. In 1977 the band won the Canadian National Championship for the open class in Toronto. This was followed by engagements to perform at the Montreux, Switzerland Jazz Festival. He was later asked to join the Jon Ballantyne trio, which won the award for the best new Canadian Jazz Group at the Montreal Jazz Festival, also sharing the stage with Dizzy Gillespie. This was followed by an engagement to perform at the Paris, France Jazz Festival. Since then he has had the opportunity to work with such jazz greats as Clark Terry, Pepper Adams, Herb Ellis, Bobby Shew, Phraser McPherson, Eddie Harris, Sammy Noto, Mark Murphy and great Canadian jazz artist, Tommy Banks, to name just a few.
